If you want to process paper checks electronically, then you need the right equipment. That equipment is, specifically, a terminal that can read checks and transfer the bank account information to the merchant account provider to verify the bank account and to process the payment so you can get paid. Due to online shopping and bill payment, another form of paying by check has emerged. Many people find it much more convenient to pay directly from their checking account without having to write a paper check at all. This electronic transaction allows authorized funds to be transferred directly from a customer’s checking account to your business account using an account number and a bank routing number. This process is very similar to receiving your pay via direct deposit when your company simply transfers your pay directly into your checking accountwithout having to write you a paper check. If you have repeat customers who pay you on a regular basis, such as monthly, an added benefit to electronically transferring funds is automating that process. With a customer’s authorization, you can bill them monthly and have the funds directly transferred to your account, instead of waiting for a check to come in the mail.

The biggest issue involved with electronic check payment processing is, of course, security. Bank account numbers are both extremely important to their owners and very vulnerable to fraud. If you choose to accept check payments electronically, make sure you have the proper security measures in place to prevent fraud and/or theft.

Choosing to do your check processing electronically can simplify your payment process and help you get paid faster. Consider this option when you are setting up your merchant account for all your payment solutions.
